Review: Wicca for Men by A.J Drew

Review by Kim Huggens

The title of this book drew me in immediately: I had been looking for books that focus on the Male Mysteries for a long time, and I was hoping this book would enlighten me or at least point me in the right direction. After all, there's plenty of books on the Female Mysteries and Women-centric Wicca.

But the only thing this book has to do with the Male Mysteries is the title and a brief few pages on the 'role' of men and the God in Wicca. The rest of the book is just another Wicca 101, with information you can find in hundreds of other books. It is not applied specifically to men at all.

Even the section that applies specifically to Wicca for men leaves a lot to be desired, as it goes down the undesirable route of saying that only men can experience the God within themselves, and can only experience the Goddess through making love to a woman. Now, last time I checked, God and Goddess could be found within all people, regardless of gender, and sex wasn't the only way to experience them. I would even go so far as to say that it is the kind of views expressed in this book that hold people back from true union within themselves of Goddess and God.

Overall, an astonishingly unfocused book that is both questionable and unoriginal. There are other books on the Male Mysteries available now, so spend your money on them instead.
