Review: Living the Tarot, by Amber Jayanti

Review by Kim Huggens

Wordsworth Editions Ltd
ISBN 1-84022-513-0
Price: £2.99

The subtitle of this book reads "Applying Ancient Wisdom to the Challenges of Modern Living", and whilst this sounds like something you'd find on a sappy self-help book, it is not anything like that here. Instead, it refers to the fact that in this book Jayanti not only describes the Major Arcana of the Tarot, complete with divinatory meanings, spiritual meanings, astrological and kabbalistic attributions, and more, but she also applies them to everyday life. She shows how they appear in her students' and her own life, or shows how their teachings can be used in everyday life to improve our situation.

With about 14 pages devoted to each card, Jayanti really goes into depth here, and any reading of it will broaden your understanding of the cards. Sadly, it only looks at the Major Arcana, but to compensate for this the book uses the BOTA colour-in deck for illustrations, so you have the opportunity to colour each card yourself.

I highly recommend this book to anybody looking to deepen their understanding of the Major Arcana and how the cards apply to our everyday and spiritual lives. Overall, at £2.99 for 426 pages, Living the Tarot is an inexpensive and valuable resource for any Tarot enthusiast.
