From the Editor

And another year passes. The passing of time is a bittersweet experience: it brings with it the joys of a bright new future as well as the pains of endings and goodbyes, and as we get older the years seems to pass by more quickly. Before we know it we have let half our life slip past us without doing anything with it.

My aim this year with the Pagan Society has been to give people a means of avoiding that. Though we cannot make time stand still we can give it a good run for its money by making the most of what precious little time we have given to us. Instead of letting your university years pass you by nonchalantly, you have the option to take part in all sorts of extra- curricular activities, where you can learn from others and experience new things, see new places...

At the start of this year I wanted to give Pagan students (and those considering Paganism) an opportunity through the Pagan Society: to provide plenty of diverse talks and workshops to inspire you and help you; to organize memorable trips to places that have to be seen at least once in your life; to foster the kind of environment and atmosphere in the society that was conducive to the building of new friendships and links with other groups. I look back on the year that passed by so quickly and realize that it exceeded even my high expectations! We have had so much help from other groups and people: giving talks, attending the socials, helping out with ideas... I am amazed at the generosity of those who have lent a hand this year, and I am pleased at the swelling number of members we have and the continued attendance at the socials. Without these regular members the Pagan Society would have slumped long ago. As Pagans it is notoriously difficult for us to find others that can understand us and our practices, so I dare say that the friendships formed in the Pagan Society have made a huge difference to everybody's lives.

And that has made all the hard work worthwhile, a thousand times over.

We are approaching the Summer Solstice fast now, when the Sun reaches its zenith and the days are longest. After that the Sun begins to descend again, the days shorten, and the night-time closes in once more. Needless to say I think, that the Summer months are often the happiest months for a student, and in general the warmer weather and brighter days puts people in a better mood. We begin to get active again, we are inspired, we get creative, we find ourselves full of life once more. Maybe the Sun Tides run naturally in our blood, but whatever the cause is, we should make the most of this vitality. As the Sun gets stronger so do we. As the days get warmer so our drive and desire gets stronger.

Thank you all for making the Pagan Society so successful this year. To those who are leaving to do other things: may the Gods bless you on your journey. And for those staying with us: brace yourselves for an even better year coming up!

Blessings,
Kim Huggens
