The Centenary WorkingBy Frater D Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. PrologueThe intention of this working was:
The participants were myself, Frater P... and Frater T... I moved to Cairo in late September 2003 to begin preparations for the working. I rented an apartment in Mounira, near the city centre and 10 minutes walk from the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the current home of the Stele of Revealing. I set up a temple and started to prepare myself mentally and spiritually for the challenge ahead. The negative forces rose up against me almost immediately. I think this is an indication of the importance of this work. In January 2004 I had three reproductions of the Stele of Revealing hand painted for me at a papyrus factory near the Pyramids. I also started to attempt Liber Nu, a sublime (and very difficult) practice of Thelemic mysticism. I had to abandon the practice in March when I failed to achieve success in one of its steps. Despite this failure my efforts helped me to focus on the work at hand. From 21st March onwards I performed Liber Reguli daily in my temple, to charge it with the energies of the Aeon of Horus. Frater P... and Frater T... were due to arrive in Cairo on the 31st of March. The WorkingDay 1 - 31st March 2004I met Frater P... and Frater T... at Cairo Airport and we went to my apartment. I gave each of them a reproduction of the Stele of Revealing as a memento of their visit. After we had slept we visited the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities where we paid our respects to the Stele itself. We discussed Ankh-f-n-khonsu's role in the establishment of the previous Aeon of Osiris. We agreed on the practices we would perform for the feast. Day 2 - 1st April 2004I have decided to cut myself off from the outside world until the feast is over. My appetite is non-existent, but I am keeping my fluid levels high. The weather here is excellent - warm and dry, with wonderful golden sunlight. My brethren and I discussed our magickal plans in detail, and then visited the Khan el-Khalili. We need to get the tourist stuff out of our system before the feast.Day 3 - 2nd April 2004Today we went to the Giza Plateau to visit the Sphinx, one of the aspects of Ra-Hoor-Khuit. Frater P... obtained strong contact from it - he felt it was watching everything that was happening around it. Unfortunately the hassle factor from the local Bedouins spoilt the atmosphere somewhat. (Bedouin: "Hey Mister, want to ride a camel?" Frater P: "No thank you, camels are evil.")Day 4 - 3rd April 2004We were beginning to run out of food so we went shopping in Maadi, a suburb of Cairo that is home to most of the city's Westerners. In the evening we went to a club in the Nile Hilton and saw the most amazing jazz quartet.Day 5 - 4th April 2004Today we visited Boulaq, the area of Cairo that Crowley was living in when he received Liber Al vel Legis. Then we went to the Cairo Tower for dinner. Afterwards the negative forces rose up against us in an effort to prevent us from performing this working. I controlled them with an effort of Will.Day 6 - 5th April 2004The build up to the feast is becoming more intense and I am becoming aware of the implications of our work. I am hoping that the current of the Aeon of Horus will be strengthened by what we do.Day 7 - 6th April 2004Today we visited the Royal Mummies Room in the Museum. Frater P... obtained strong contacts from several of the mummies, particularly the (supposed) mummy of Ramses II. This is my personal favourite as well. I always get the feeling that he could wake up at any moment. We also visited the Stele of Revealing. It is "thrumming" with energy. I wonder if other Thelemites are here for the feast. So far we have not encountered any. I am barely sleeping at the moment, maybe 4 hours a night. I am having strange dreams that I cannot remember properly on waking.Day 8 - 7th April 2004Final preparations for the feast, which begins tomorrow. I am feeling very strange. My body is aching constantly. I am very stressed, and beginning to suffer from physical exhaustion. I am running on caffeine and nicotine at the moment. I am beginning to see "traces", as though I was on acid. I can feel the pressure building to a climax. The negative forces seem to be fading and I am entering "the Zone", psychologically and spiritually speaking. I am totally focused on the work at hand. Liber Reguli is a very powerful daily practice. In my naiveté and arrogance I believed that I had mastered the ritual. Not at all! I have barely scratched the surface of it.Day 9 - 8th April 2004The First Day of the Centenary Feast of Liber Al Vel Legis. We have decided upon the following outline for each day of the feast:
We awoke and performed an offering ritual to Nuit. While I was preparing the offerings a glass exploded in my hand - luckily I was not injured. While the offerings were being "consumed" the temple became a definite no-go area for us. At noon we performed the reading of Chapter 1 of Liber Legis. As I read the text I became aware of Nuit manifesting within the temple, arched above us. Afterwards we consumed the physical remains of the offerings as a eucharist and I performed Liber Reguli as usual. In the afternoon we visited the Stele. A small group of local people were sitting around its display cabinet, which was nice. I visited the coffin of Ankh-f-n-khonsu as a mark of respect. When we got home we performed a cut-down version of the Gnostic Mass as an invocation of Nuit. The ritual went well, with strong channels and successful contact and we went out later to relax and eat. I was manic. So far, so good. All the tension has drained from me now that the work is begun. Hopefully we can bring it to a successful conclusion. Day 10 - 9th April 2004The Second Day of the Centenary Feast of Liber Al Vel Legis. We slept well and rose late. We performed the reading of Chapter 2 and then presented offerings to Hadit. We went to visit the Stele and met a group of Thelemites at the display case. Frater T... knew them. They invited us to meet for drinks at their hotel this evening. We returned to my apartment for the Hadit rite, which was based on the myth of the Winged Disk from the temple of Horus at Edfu. We ritually destroyed the negative forces which oppose the Aeon of Horus. The rite was a success. In the evening we met the Thelemites at their hotel. They seem like a nice bunch of people. They invited us to meet them tomorrow evening as well. Only one more day to go! Day 11 - 10th April 2004The Third Day of the Centenary Feast of Liber Al Vel Legis. I slept well. Frater P... did not. He has a heat rash, and Frater T... has an ear infection (and no health insurance!) We presented offerings to Ra-Hoor Khuit in the morning. At noon we performed the reading of Chapter 3, and then went to the Stele. Two teenage Thelemites came along while we were there but they scurried off to hide until we had left. We returned to my apartment and performed a rite of Ra-Hoor Khuit based on a coronation statue of Ramses III in the Egyptian Museum. The idea was for Horus to receive the Osiris Current (previous Aeon) and Maat Current (carrier wave for all Aeonic currents) and blend their energies into the Horus Current, to strengthen it. The ritual was a success.
The Aeon of Horus has been reconsecrated. The results of this sequence of work may not manifest for many years, but we all feel that we have done something worthwhile. We went to meet the Thelemites at their hotel. They seemed more relaxed with us - they seem to have decided that they like us. Day 12 - 11th April 2004Convalescing from three days of intense theurgy. I feel as though I've been hit by a moped, while Frater T... is sleeping a lot and Frater P... is shattered. Day 13 - 12th April 2004Still convalescing. Shisha helps. We all agree that this has been a significant experience for all of us, and that it was worth all the trials and tribulations. Day 14 - 13th April 2004Frater P... and Frater T... left Cairo in the early hours of the morning. I was sorry to see them go, and wish they could have stayed longer. I will return to Cardiff in seven weeks. Meanwhile I need to wind down and recover. Love is the law, love under will. Cairo, 100AH (2004 ev) |
