On Communing With Trees

By Peter Nash

Meditating alone in a leafy clearing,
My back solid against an impressive girth
Of the weather shaped structure
Of a mighty oak; defiant of the elements,
Tree spirit guardians counsel me;
Whispering voices speaking in hushed tones,
I hear a heartbeat; gently pulsing
Through branches, leaves and countless veins
Of green blood flowing; a river of life
Nature's energy tingles and oscillates
A radiant aura of healing rays;
Shine forth; a multi coloured mirage
Of hazy vibration.

And I sit beneath the canopy
Overwhelmed by tides of latent emotion;
My spine merging with the dreaming trunk
Our auras blending; true peace
My heart weeps with painful longing;
For I yearn to enter realms of splendid geometry
Where I could learn your holy lore.
Dawn breaks; in the early morning I am whole once more.
