The Mermaid and the Rain

By Emrys Ruck

Upon the beach the rain did fall,
On stone and surf and sand.
Brought by passing gulls it was,
Or perhaps a mermaid's hand.
Foam was her hair,
The clouds her eyes,
The wind a heartfelt sigh.
For the rain it was her tears,
Kissing the land goodbye.
