Tarot Course for Everyone!
Coming in October 2008, Kim Huggens will be running a fortnightly Tarot course open to anybody and everybody that wishes to attend. It will cost £3 per lesson for students (you must show a valid NUS card or university enrolment papers) and £5 per lesson for non-students. Every lesson will include plenty of handouts for you to take home and continue your studies or refresh your brain. This course is designed for both absolute beginners and more advanced readers. Beginners will be given an excellent grounding in Tarot before we move deeper into it, and advanced readers will benefit from the group exercises, tips, and exploration of Tarot from different perspectives. Unlike many other Tarot courses, this one does not run chronologically through every card of the pack listing meanings in a boring and dull fashion. Instead, the Major Arcana are introduced in groups of three based on their themes, in between other topics such as choosing a Tarot deck, creating spreads, using a Tarot journal, Tarot history, the nature of symbolism, learning Tarot effectively, mythology, and more. The Minor Arcana are explored in four separate lessons, again accompanied by relevant topics such as elemental symbolism, Kabbalah, relevant Tarot spreads, the evolution of the suits, and Tarot magic. The course leader will not expect participants to be lectured at however. Every lesson includes group exercises, practice readings, practising techniques that lead to improved reading and intuition, discussion, and a few special occasion fun lessons. There is also optional “Extra Credit” homework for participants to do between lessons. This will enable participants to assimilate the lessons quicker and more easily, work with the techniques and concepts explored in the lessons, and form a solid basis for further private study. You do not need anything for the first lesson, not even a Tarot deck. However, if you own a Tarot deck that you like please feel free to bring it along. A notebook will also be helpful. The course leader as a vast array of Tarot decks people can borrow until they get their own, and will advise participants on how to choose a good first deck. See below for a break down of the first 15 lessons. These are subject to change during the course of the year. For more information, email Kim. The lessons will also be advertized throughout the year via the CUPS mailing list and website. To see what we have lined up in the course lessons, go here. About the Course Leader Kim Huggens has been working with the Tarot for 15 years, on both a personal and professional level. She is the co-creator of the recently published deck “Sol Invictus: The God Tarot” and forthcoming “Pistis Sophia: The Goddess Tarot” (see www.godtarot.com for the first deck, and www.schifferbooks.com for the publisher.) She has had articles on Tarot and Tarot deck/book reviews published by Aeclectic Tarot, Tarot Passages, the Tarot Lovers Calendar, and the American Tarot Association. She doesn’t believe in superstition, believes Tarot can be learned and used by anybody, and refuses to force a particular viewpoint of Tarot upon anybody. Above all, she believes in individual experience, practice, and understanding of the cards, beyond learning by rote from books.
