ElementalBy Loreena McKennit1994 Quinlan Road Music Ltd. Elemental, by the female singer Loreena McKennit is one of her earlier works, drawing inspiration from the wealth of Celtic/British folk-songs in existence. In this album, Loreena performs classics such as 'She Moved Through The Fair' and 'Carrighfergus', though I doubt I have heard anybody perform these as well as Loreena yet. Her voice is astounding, with an impressive range which she uses to full effect in all her works. (See if you don't shed a tear at her rendition of Carrighfergus!) Loreena also puts to music the writing of famous poets, and in Elemental she turns to William Blake, creating the song 'Lullaby', which is an ironic title for a song that is spine-chilling and powerful like a thunderstorm! Plenty of harp and beautiful voice, this album is a relaxing journey through British folk-songs, perfect for anybody who likes harp-music, Celtic sounds, or who wants something suited to meditation and visualisation. (The songs are full of nature imagery and so provide a perfect background.) |
