CUPS Event
We are pleased to announce Cardiff University's first Alternative Ball, a forthcoming event (12 March) run by societies including GRIMSoc (the Goth, Rock, Industrial and Metal society) and PaganSoc. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=info&ref=mf&gid=254354586394 (NB You don't have to be a student to come! The ball is open to all!)
Tickets for the event are on sale now and for a limited time only: full tickets (£30 for meal and dance) need to be bought by the end of the week, Friday 26 February. Get in touch with us now if you want one! Tickets for the dance (£3 members £4 non-members) should be available after that time but the sooner we get your money the better we can make the event!
Some additional details from GRIMSoc's indomitable Sim follow:
"The menu is:
Welsh Lamb Cawl - Served with Walnut bread
Pork Loin with Apple & Cider gravy -Boneless piece of pork loin braised in a sweet apple and cider gravy, served with potatoes and seasonal vegetables
Deluxe trio of chocolate served with a raspberry coulis
OR (for those who avoid animal bits)
Brown Lentil and Wild Mushroom Pate
Vegetable Bourguignon - A rich red wine sauce with fresh mushrooms, courgettes, onions, carrot and herb dumplings
Surprise dessert (will depend on number requested)
Can those who have bought tickets for the meal but don't want the meat post on the [Facebook] discussion board this week. [Or let us know when you get your ticket - Andy]
Also if you want any specific music played feel free to post about that too. [Or let us know when you get your ticket - Andy]
To answer the questions about the dress code, it is as smart as you like. There will be a lot of corsets and a fair bit of steam punk attire by the sounds of it so far, but also ball gowns, waistcoats and, well, just about everything else.
To everyone who is undecided about coming along, this is the only time we're ever planning on throwing this type of event, so it could be your only chance to go to a ball thrown specifically for all you crazy people, as well as being cheaper than all the alternatives."
If you missed the first message, here is what you can expect from the ball:
"Just like the summer ball we invite you to put on your smart clothes and join us for a night of fun, food, drink and music. But unlike the summer ball we will be playing Rock, Metal, Alternative and all the other fun genres of music that you never hear outside of dark clubs, from Gothic to Ska and just about everything else we can think of.
So now that you've decided that this is the best idea that you've ever heard here are the details. This ball is open to everyone, not just Cardiff students, all who love loud music are welcome. It's on Friday the 12th of March at the Union, inside CF10 from 7pm to 1am. Tickets are £30 including a full 3 course meal, the menu for which will be posted up here shortly, or if you can't afford that there is the option of paying £4 to come along after the meal from 9:30 for some dancing and drinking. Members of selected societies have this reduced to £3 (see below) and tickets should be available from exec of some of those societies or at the Union box office. To make this event a bit more special dress smart, formal alternative if you can."
Hope to see there!
